Mercersburg Academy Summer Programs is excited to announce the 2019 program dates as well as announce two new camps coming to this season’s lineup.
All programs (with the exception of ESL+) are offering a special early-bird price of up to $200 off the registration fee. Camps range in length from one week to four weeks. Early-bird prices are in effect through February 15, 2019.
Registration fees are inclusive of all meals and activities, and non-day camp programs also include lodging in one of Mercersburg’s state-of-the-art on-campus dormitories.
“Our programs offer an opportunity for families from all over the world to visit Mercersburg Academy and take advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities,” says Coleman Weibley, Mercersburg’s director of summer and external programs. “Whether a family is interested in experiencing the boarding-school lifestyle, or just finding an unforgettable summer experience, our program offerings have something for everyone.”
Mercersburg Academy Girls’ Lacrosse Camp welcomes players of all levels for a comprehensive skill-building experience that will leave players feeling confident and prepared to compete at the next level. Coach Kristin Ahlgren (head girls’ varsity lacrosse coach at Mercersburg) and her staff of college players and coaches will focus on skill development and improvement, from fundamental stickwork skills to advanced attacking and defending methods. Participants will have plenty of opportunities to play full-field games, but will also build their abilities in small-game situations. Skills Choice Sessions allow campers to choose which skills they’d like to spend time working on, while coaches will assist and help develop proper technique.
Also new this year is the Soccer Elite Camp, an overnight camp for boys and girls June 23-26. This camp is for experienced players who want to take their game to the next level. Athletes will participate in up to three training sessions per day with an emphasis on the technical and tactical aspects of the game, and will also have a chance to apply these concepts each evening during competitive matches. The program will also cover functional training by position, such as individual defending, midfield play and possession, and final-third work for strikers and goalkeepers. Led by Coach Carl Stensland (head boys’ varsity soccer coach at Mercersburg) and Coach Kristen Pixler (head girls’ varsity soccer coach), this program will also be staffed by college coaches and players.
In addition to Pixler and Stensland (who are also leading the Soccer Day Camp) and Ahlgren, Academy faculty and staff members scheduled to serve as instructors at different sessions this summer include Sean Crocker, head boys’ varsity basketball coach (Boys’ Basketball Camp); Glenn Neufeld, head swimming coach and director of aquatics (Mercersburg Swim Clinics); Pixler (Soccer Elite Camp and Soccer Day Camp); Paul Sipes, head girls’ varsity basketball coach (Girls’ Basketball Camp).
