Camp Kindness Day

On Tuesday, July 24, 2018, Mercersburg Summer Programs participated in Camp Kindness Day, a cooperative effort between the American Camp Association, the country’s largest organization supporting the camp industry, and The Kindness Evolution, an organization whose mission is to is to fuel a positive cultural shift by providing a collaborative platform for greater connectivity and social impact, uniting us to more fully incorporate the practice of intentional kindness and care into every aspect of American society.

Summer programs across the country participated in Camp Kindness Day, by incorporating themes of kindness, compassion, generosity, and care into their programming. This is an opportunity for the camp community to join together to demonstrate the great work that camps are doing to teach kindness in engaging, simple, repeatable, and high-impact ways that live on in the lives of campers and staff when they return home.

"We incorporate kindness and respect into our programming every day, but Camp Kindness Day gives us a unique and direct opportunity promote peace and compassion," says Director of Summer Programs, Coleman Weibley. "Our ultimate goal is to lead by example and show campers how to treat each other, at camp, at school, and at home.”

In addition to regularly scheduled activities, Mercersburg Summer Program participants had opportunities to write letters to someone they appreciate, sign thank you notes for the support staff, make friendship bracelets, and create a collage to show appreciation to counselors and other participants during a carnival held in the Hale Field House. The carnival also included an inflatable obstacle course, a life-size hungry hippo game, and a bungee basketball run.
