One main focus of all Mercersburg Summer Programs is teamwork. Boys’ and girls’ basketball camp and swim clinic coaches and counselors have been teaching the participants the value of teamwork.
Basketball camps have been working on drills and playing games like 5 v 5, shooting competitions, and partner work. All of these games and drills help improve campers skills but also teach them teamwork. Counselors are always mixing up teams when it is time to play 5 v 5 so that campers are with new and different teammates each day. Tonight boys’ and girls’ basketball camps combined their teamwork and had a 3 v 3 tournament.
Girls’ basketball has film from the Mercersburg Academy varsity basketball team playing in the gym. When there is downtime or the campers are waiting for a game to get over they can watch the film. This shows the campers skills and techniques they can learn, but it also teaches them how a team works together in game situations, or how each teammate know each other's skill sets so they can win a game.
Swim clinics have been busy working in the pool on their individual skills but they also take some time outside of the pool to focus on teamwork. Last night they played kickball, frisbee, red rover, and many other recreational activities. Tonight they will relax and watch a movie together as a team.
