Mercersburg Academy’s Office of Summer and Extended Programs announced today several contests related to its summer enrichment and art programs, specifically the summer dance and theatre intensives and the Young Writers Camp. “This is a great opportunity for students to collaborate with their peers, and the chance to participate in a fun summer program,” said Jo Wrzesinsky, the director of summer and extended programs at Mercersburg Academy.
Summer Dance Contest
Mercersburg’s summer dance intensive is proud to present the 4th Annual Dance Contest. This contest is open to the first year dancer to the experienced dancers, who are ages 11–16. Dancers interested in participating in this contest, should create a 1–2 minute video of their dance routine. All styles are accepted including, but not limited to, contemporary, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and tap. Entries should be uploaded to YouTube and then submitted via the summer dance contest page
Summer Theatre Contest
Mercersburg’s summer theatre contest kicks off the Summer Theatre Intensive's performance of The Giver.
Students who wish to enter this contest are asked to record themselves reading one of two provided monologues from The Giver
. These monologues can be read in any creative style the student feels fit. Entries should be uploaded to YouTube and then submitted via the summer theatre contest page
Young Writers Contest
The 6th Annual Young Writers Contest kicks off the Young Writers Camp’s summer 2016 theme, “Behind the Locked Door of Mystery,” and is open to students ages 11-16. Those interested in participating should submit a piece of writing (in 1,000 words or less) describing what they find in a trunk in their grandma’s attic, and the secrets it holds. Entries can take the form of any genre or style (fiction, poetry, news article, etc.). Submissions can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org

All entries will receive 15 percent off their enrollment to the contests’ respective programs. A grand-prize winner, and first and second runners-up will be selected for each contest. Prizes include free camp enrollments and gift certificates to camp related vendors.
