Hello again from Sonny the Adventure camp canine! I have been having another amazing summer here in Mercersburg. In fact, I just got back from a day at the beach. I put on my trunks, splashed around in the water, put my shoes back on and played some soccer in the grass too! Cowan’s Gap State Park Beach is the perfect setting for an Adventure Camp excursion. I even got to help build a sandcastle. Campers went for a swim, had fun in the sun and spent some quality time with the fellow campers and counselors. Stay tuned, I have a feeling its only going to get better!

If anyone is ever in need of a good resource for summer camps, I have the perfect listing website for you! www.signupforcamp.com. The lovely people at signupforcamp.com decided to create a listing website not long ago and currently operate one of the more efficient, accurate and comprehensive summer camp opportunities websites out there. They’re motivated purely out of a desire to present parents and kids with a wealth of summer options in one convenient location. Last year it was the wild west, this year we have plans to make this year’s theme bigger and better. Any guesses? I will give three hints, The theme has nothing to do with Dora the Explorer. The theme is not based on barnyard animals. Finally, the theme is not related to traveling back in time in any way. We hope you are getting excited for camp and are ready for the incredible summer of 2010. Whether the theme is The Amazing Race, Disney movies or Alice in Wonderland we promise it will be fun. Good, old fashioned, throw your head back and laugh, fun.

Adventure Camp starts in 50 days! I hope you’re ready for trips to Hersheypark, white water rafting, minor league sports games, enrichments, awesome outdoor activities, campfires and fun with friends you haven’t met yet! When an Adventure Camper signs up for an enrichment, not only are they reserving their spot for almost 5 hours of dynamic and fun activity, there’s a host of things to look forward to! First off, campers are strategically placed in enrichments with new, soon to be buddies. Our adventure campers may arrive at camp with friends, but they will leave with more than they had when they got there! Enrichment teachers make sure to encourage comraderie and teamwork in all activities. Campers will also come away with a special craft, or commemorative item to remember their enrichment by. It could be their final project in arts and crafts, drawing, painting or digital photography, or maybe it’s a tasty treat they made in culinary arts, a dvd of the movie made in camera crew or simply the memory of their final magic show in front of the entire camp! Whatever enrichment you sign up for, one things for sure, you will have a good time!

This past Saturday, Summer Programs had its one and only open house of the spring from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. While the weather was not perfect, we had an intimate campus tour and an awesome afternoon getting to know a group of incoming campers and families. The idea of an open house is really meant to satisfy a few of our summer families’ needs. An open house gives them a chance to look around campus, get a feel for the facilities that their child will be sleeping in, playing in and eating in as well as have an opportunity to get to know us personally in the Summer Programs Office.
