It’s the most wonderful time of the year, well, almost. Around here we’re pretty partial to summer too. In the spirit of the holiday season, Mercersburg Summer has released two special holiday carols that will hopefully help our campers reminisce about the summer days and get in a festive mood at the same time!

If you haven’t already, make sure you reserve your spot in camp using HOLIDAY10 for 10% off. This offer expires December 31st.

The rain is turning Central Pennsylvania into an Eastern version of Seattle. It seems like the perfect day to post some pictures from Young Writers Camper Christopher L. Chris was a returning writer and was kind enough to send us some pictures from his awesome Dark and Stormy Summer. I hope you enjoy the following photographs and remember a fun summer amidst the dreary rainfall.

This past Tuesday night our Teen Adventure Camp had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the Tag Party team to our campus. We broke up into two groups and played a combined hour and a half of laser tag. After the group was done playing laser tag we all cooled off with an awesome game of water tag. The perfect end to a hot, but ridiculously fun night. The link to the pictures can be found HERE.

Position: Senior Counselor
Profile: A senior counselor can often be picked out in a crowd. The counselor is predisposed to loud cheering, singing, table banging and general yelling. They also tend to have a fantastic sense of humor, often looking on the bright side. The insatiable appetite for fun of a senior counselor is only challenged by that of a camper. In the summer our counselors are typically: sitting in the front row of a rollercoaster at Hersheypark, triumphantly raising their paddle in the air while rafting down the Youghiogheny River, Singing at the top of their lungs at a campfire, defending home base in capture the flag, evading an onslaught of dodge balls in end zone, climbing atop a high ropes element at a challenge course, careening down the slip ‘n slide, and thrusting themselves to the forefront of any number of fun camp activities. Adventure camp is a unique two week experience where we hope that each and every camper has the time of their lives and who better to take campers on this journey than our counselors?
See if you might recognize a few…
Does anyone have a favorite counselor??? Share your favorite counselor stories and send them to summerprograms@mercersburg.edu and we’ll post the best one on our blog and facebook!

Mercersburg Summer hits the road every winter to share and promote our unique summer opportunities. Most often these trips include camp fairs hosted everywhere from malls to school cafeterias. While these events certainly attract some great families who are eager to learn about summer opportunities, it often reminds me of a trade show where everyone puts their best face forward and it might be hard to get the real scoop on summer programs. This year, in addition to camp fairs, Mercersburg Summer has been lucky enough to be invited into several of our Ambassador families’ homes in order to talk about our camps. Here we get to sit down with friends and family of our ambassadors in a comfortable setting and, through our campers, talk about the meaningful experience that Mercersburg Summer provides. It also gives us a chance to catch up with some of our favorite(everyone) campers!

A big part of adventure camp is our Enrichments. Enrichments are a chance for campers to try new things and explore already existent passions whether it be in art, music, science or even cooking! This year we’ve spiced up our enrichment offerings. Listen to this awesome MAC enrichment line up: Old School Science Lab, Edible Experiments, Digital Photography, The Joy of Cooking, Iron Chef, MAC Films, Wizard Training, The Craft of Art, Adventures in Clay, and Center Stage. What doesn’t sound fun about any of those?

Happy Valentine’s Day from the Cabin Inspector!

Hey, everybody! It’s that special time of year where you remember the special people that you care about most—Valentine’s Day! Not to mention, it’s the perfect time to eat some candy and chocolate…it’s like a mini-Halloween in February without having to Trick-or-Treat.
The best part of Valentine’s Day is of course getting a Valentine’s Day card from someone who cares about you. You can see the card I got from Mercersburg in the picture! On the card, it asked me if I liked camp, if I missed camp, and if I wanted to come back to camp. Naturally, I answered YES to all of the questions! I can’t imagine spending my summers anywhere else. It just wouldn’t feel right being away from Mercersburg.
In the background, you can see part of the Washington, DC skyline where I attend college, it’s really cool being here, but I wish summer was here, so I could be back in Mercersburg with all of you, along with my fellow counselors. June can’t come soon enough! It’s been too long since camp ended…I think I might be a little campsick this Valentine’s Day.
I hope everyone has a great Valentine’s Day, and be sure to keep checking back for more blogs. Until next time, have a safe and enjoyable holiday. I’ll talk to you soon. (And make sure to wish for warmer weather…that way, summer will come even faster!)

Who would think that a grizzly looking creature like this fellow would inspire one of the most enjoyable camp songs of all time? The song entitled “2 snare nosed buzzards” lacks rhythm, pitch and any kind of melodious flow but I dare anyone to recite the simple verses and choreography without cracking a smile. It just can’t be done. It’s impossible to phone in a rendition of snare nosed buzzard, you either go all out for this song or you just don’t sing it. That’s kind of how I like to think of adventure camp, you either savor every waking moment, or you might as well stay at home. I promise I’m going to put everything into my own snare nosed buzzard this summer, will you join me?
