Holiday Greetings from the Cabin Inspector!
It’s hard to believe the holidays are here! It seems like yesterday when I was having Thanksgiving dinner with my family and wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.
In my humble opinion, the holidays are the best time of the year…well, maybe behind summer at Mercersburg, but they both are equally awesome. Camp at Mercersburg is a Summer Wonderland, while the holidays are a Winter Wonderland, and I am glad I can celebrate them both each and every year!!!
The absolute best thing about the holidays, and of course camp too, is seeing old friends. For example, check out my picture below. Guess who Chris and I found at a basketball game this weekend? Do you remember him from a year ago? It’s none other than Jake Simon! Jake, along with Chris, wanted me to let you all know that it’s all about “Junior Boys forever!!!” and the “TORNADOS!!!” (Sorry, we couldn’t help showing a little bit of our tornado pride…look, Jake is even wearing a red shirt, he’s still ready for the H-T competitions!) And as the Cabin Inspector, let’s not forget that the junior boys did win the last cabin inspection, so as a result, they are the reigning cabin inspection winners ’til this upcoming summer!

Anyway, I hope each and everyone one of you has a safe and enjoyable holiday season this year. And remember, the Cabin Inspector, much like his good friend Santa Claus (who also wears Tornado colors…coincidence? I don’t think so, haha!), never takes a day off, so be sure to be on your best behavior! Until next time, take it easy and be sure to check back for more blogs!

Well, it’s that time of year again…time to gather with the people closest to you and celebrate the great American holiday that is Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is probably my favorite holiday. I just love everything about it. There’s family, turkey, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and did I mention TURKEY?
However, the best thing about Thanksgiving is remembering what you are thankful for. Every year, the thing that I am most thankful for is my family and friends, both at camp and back home. In fact, a lot of the friends I made at camp actually feel like a part of my extended family, and I am sure you feel the same way too about the friends you made over the past summer. I have been working at camp for over four summers now, and I have been very fortunate to meet a lot of different people and to make a lot of friends along the way as a result.

Hi everybody! When I’m not at Adventure Camp, I’m usually in Montreal, the city where I go to school. You’d think it would be easy for me to forget about Mercersburg’s peaceful pastures and all the summer fun of Adventure Camp up here in the north, but I’m constantly reminiscing about these past summers! Whenever I find myself up high somewhere and my fear of heights kicks in (which happens pretty often), I always think back to the high ropes course we did with Teen Adventures at Cedar Ridge – I saw a lot of fearless campers that day, and I’ll never forget the way they inspired me to conquer my fears! That memory has definitely helped me to feel a little less weak in the knees when I’m more than two stories up.

Starting to head out on a spooky path towards another fabulous Halloween eve, we at Mercersburg Summer wish you a world of candy-coated fun this Sunday! We are missing you especially because of our dress up and theme days. There are so many great costumes we have socked away… but hey, if you have your Adventure Camp shirt, you could absolutely wear that since it is all about Halloween colors.
In the photo above, we have a number of images of Halloween artifacts. Can you count how many are there? Please note that every bat counts as 1! And stay tuned… we will be posting the answers on Monday!
Also, if you have time to take a picture of you in your costume, please do and send to us here. We want to post a collection of them on the blog!

Hey, everybody! It’s good to see you again! Right now, I’m at the school library hitting the books. Or, maybe I actually just caught a book!

Anyway, this time of year is always cool. World Series baseball is here, and football is in full swing. But most of all, I love Halloween. It is one of my favorite holidays, because it reminds me so much of camp. However, even though I get to dress up at Halloween, it is still not the same as dressing up for cabin inspection. Remember those? I’m sure you all are practicing cleaning your rooms at home, so you can hit a home run during cabin inspection this upcoming summer.

Senior Counselor Emily Weiss recalls one particular night filled with bonding on the lodge and an impromptu dance party…

It was the last night before everyone went home and the group had just finished doing affirmation circles. Every night over the past two weeks, all the junior girls in adventure camp had mini dance parties before going to bed, and since it was the last night, we decided that we would have one last fiesta. All the girls were initially melancholy because it was our last night, but when we turned on the jams, the hall erupted. We put on some oldies like “Twist and Shout” along with some more recent pop hits. Counselors and campers alike were having an awesome time grooving to the beats. Just when we didn’t think the madness couldn’t get any more fun, the “Hoedown Throwdown” came on and all of us begged counselor Cassie to teach us the moves. Pop it, Lock it, Polka dot it, Countrify it, Hip-Hop it… we finally got it down pat and then all of the senior girls came over and made the dance party even larger. We stayed up later than we were supposed to but it was soooo much fun. All of us were dancing and singing so loud that I’m sure that everyone in the building could hear us. I know it was a night the girls will never forget.
