It’s the most wonderful time of the year, well, almost. Around here we’re pretty partial to summer too. The rain is turning Central Pennsylvania into an Eastern version of Seattle. It seems like the perfect day to post some pictures from Young Writers Camper Christopher L. Chris was a returning writer and was kind enough to send us some pictures from his awesome Dark and Stormy Summer. Mercersburg’s Campus has a different feel to it without the myriad of boisterous campers attacking every activity with a torrent of unbridled excitement and energy. The dining hall is a formal place, where banging on the table would get you excused and shouting at the top of your lungs is an equally serious offense. Classrooms are filled with students fastidiously absorbing instruction from Mercersburg faculty. These sophisticated spaces now housing intensive curricula ranging from the fine arts to science and math were once the site of adventure camp’s renowned enrichments where campers enjoyed exploring the reaction between diet coke and mentos in Old School Science Lab, an impromptu photo shoot in Digital Photography or the unpredictable slapstick of the Laugh Factory. Mercersburg’s expansive sports fields, home to numerous varsity athletes this fall, remember the days when hundreds of screaming kids and teenagers valiantly battled on their grounds for either the hurricanes or tornadoes in capture the flag, relay races, tug of war and unforgettable marathons. A campfire pit nestled in an alcove of trees tucked away in the back corner of campus recedes into obscurity content to rest and relive the nights of epic camp medleys, cheers, skits and camper testimonies. This place will never be the same, until next summer.

This past Tuesday night our Teen Adventure Camp had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the Tag Party team to our campus. We broke up into two groups and played a combined hour and a half of laser tag. After the group was done playing laser tag we all cooled off with an awesome game of water tag. The perfect end to a hot, but ridiculously fun night. The link to the pictures can be found HERE.

The first annual Young Writers Contest was a huge success. Dozens of talented young writers submitted their best work to be judged by several Mercersburg Academy English faculty. After every submission was pored over, the winners are as follows….

This summer Teen Adventure Camp is featuring a fun new activity. Our friends at Tag Party are going to come to Mercersburg and bring 2 hours of laser tagging fun! Mercersburg has plenty of wide open spaces for Tag Party to set up their barriers and give our teen campers a fun experience they won’t forget! However, if you think laser tag is the only reason to get excited about Teen Adventure Camp, you forgot about white water rafting, bowling, a trip to a high ropes course, Hersheypark and so much more! Come join us this summer!
