It was another lovely day in Mercersburg, PA when I happened upon two strangers in very snazzy costumes. Who would have thought that these two worked for Mercersburg Summer? If you think you’re costumes are better, send them in to us HERE!

This past Saturday, Summer Programs had its one and only open house of the spring from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. While the weather was not perfect, we had an intimate campus tour and an awesome afternoon getting to know a group of incoming campers and families. The idea of an open house is really meant to satisfy a few of our summer families’ needs. An open house gives them a chance to look around campus, get a feel for the facilities that their child will be sleeping in, playing in and eating in as well as have an opportunity to get to know us personally in the Summer Programs Office. Adventure Camp wouldn’t be adventure camp without a few off campus excursions. While our motto at camp is “just wait and see”, it’s a well known fact for campers that at any moment they could be whisked off to one of several exciting destinations. Every camper is taken white water rafting, the junior campers on the beautifully historic Shenandoah River, and the senior campers on the wild and exciting Youghiogheny River.
Mercersburg Academy maintains a heated rivalry every school year that manifests itself in Irving-Marshall week. These two societies go back as far as 1873 and are the driving force between a week long competition every winter. At Mercersburg Summer we wanted to capture the essence of this rivalry when we established the Adventure Camp Hurricanes vs. Tornadoes challenge and it became a perennial summer long battle with a spirited culture all of its own. Every camper is drafted into either the Hurricanes or Tornadoes within days of arriving on campus and from that point on every sports rotation, song competition and capture the flag contest have paramount significance. Don’t think it’s that serious? Just ask them!
Mercersburg Summer would like to extend a big THANK YOU to the Casparian Family for hosting this spring’s first Mercersburg Summer reception. All the participants were extraordinary, Caroline, Xander, Sophie and Bridgette made the afternoon a truly fun affair. Everyone took a stab at some popular “Minute to Win it” games led by the Big Cheese himself, Quentin McDowell. From the balloon blow off to the candy elevator, every game was loads of fun and hopefully we were able to bring some of the Mercersburg Summer spirit to Cold Spring, NY. Thanks again Casparians! We would love to host another reception like this and if you might be interested please contact us here.
