While TGA is away on their camping trip, MAC enjoyed a day in their Great Outdoors groups. The media team headed out with Wild World of Animals, Horseback Riding, and Sports. The animal wranglers visited a zoo in Winchester, VA where they pet goats, deer, and horses, and talked to parrots.
After the zoo, we all beat the heat and ate ice cream at Maugansville Creamery. Here the MAC campers are loitering…in the shade.
The horseback riding group also had a great time learning to ride western. Woah, Nelly!
The rainstorm in the evening may have thwarted other JWAS, but it definitely did not stop the fun. The lodges promptly transformed into a pillow fight battlefield.
Caving, camping, rafting, kayaking, mountain biking, and competitive watermelon eating are only a few of the activities the campers embarked upon over the past few days. The media team has barely managed to keep up with them! The Great Adventure left Thursday morning to go rafting, and then headed to Laurel Caverns where they camped out for the night. After much singing and s’more eating, they retired to their tents. In the morning, the group took a short walk to the caverns where they trekked underground for a mile and a half with only their headlamps, crawling skills, and their trusted guide Bernie.
Tonight MAC had a BBQ out in the woods before their camp out on campus. After eating some good ol’ summer fixins (burger and dogs), the hurricanes and tornadoes duked it out with a watermelon eating race. The competition was fierce and both sides gave it their all. The night wrapped up with a campfire and star viewing in the astronomy shed. More fun tomorrow!

Mercersburg was buzzing with activity today. Camp is in full swing here. Swim camp had a full day of critique and training, and then let loose at the dance in the evening. MAC went white water rafting all day, and you can look out for pictures from their trip on Flickr tomorrow. TGA was busy with enrichments like cooking and science experiments. They ended the day with a karaoke party and everyone had their chance to shine with the mic in their hand.
And it has begun! The Adventure Camps have wasted no time getting started. In the past two days the campers have done name games, obstacle courses, zip lines, ropes courses, wizard training, and even had their fortunes told at the Carnival tonight. It is a whirlwind of events and excursions here in Mercersburg, and it is only the beginning. I guarantee that all of the kids are worn out and getting a much needed rest tonight, I know I am. Attached are photos and a video from the first couple days of camp. Enjoy!!!
And so has the fun! Today the Mercersburg Adventure Camp and The Great Adventure participants arrived and moved in to their cabins.
After the opening ceremony, campers didn’t waste any time beginning their adventures. MAC played games to get to know each other while the TGA group went on scavenger hunt across campus in a fleet of Mercersburg vans.
After some more games and songs by the campfire, everyone retired to their cabins to get settled in for the night.
Make sure to keep up with the Flickr page for more adventures this summer!
