Camp Staff
Counselors and teachers are the important wheels that keep Mercersburg Summer rolling. Good staff means great camps—and just wait until you meet ours. They are both ingenious and kooky (hey, this is camp), and their primary priority is making every camper’s experience at Mercersburg a memorable one. In fact, most campers can hardly keep up with these dynamos.
Our counselors are typically college students who have a zest for life and for camp. The common bond of our staffs is that they create and maintain a positive and encouraging environment in each activity, event, and trip. They also focus on the unique needs and development of self-esteem and self confidence in every camper.
Staff training includes standard first aid, CPR/AED certification, safety management, and interpersonal skills that address mediating/resolving conflicts, homesickness, and other camper challenges. We put a special focus on training and prevention because safety is our priority at all times.
Parents’ Corner
Our Camps are a young person’s dream. In fact, they may also be an adult’s dream. Here are just some of the reasons why parents love us:
INCLUSIVE TUITION
Tuition covers everything—all activity choices, events, trips, meals, two camp shirts, backpack, and a water bottle. There are no extra charges; campers do not need snacks, care packages, or even personal spending money. We also offer financial aid to families based on need and merit. APPROACH
All of our adventures are supervised to varying degrees. Young people need the opportunity to succeed and even to struggle, with the knowledge that they are tackling challenges within a supportive environment.
COMMUNICATION
We also believe that communication is one of the keys to success. That communication includes 24-hour phone access to the camp staff, and includes a call from your camper’s counselor after camp gets started. Check out our blog or photos that we update regularly during sessions so that parents get a “virtual” look at what we are doing and where we are going!
HEALTH/CARE
Care of our participants includes medical services. Our on-campus health center provides care for minor bumps and bruises, and we have access to emergency services 24 hours a day.
