Session 1 ended just yesterday, and while we are sad that we won’t see many of of camper until next summer, we getting all revved up for session 2! But first, here’s a slide show to show all of the fun and adventure we had during session 1!
Wow, what an incredible two weeks of camp! The end of a session is truly a bittersweet experience. It always goes by much faster than anyone could have anticipated and suddenly, one is left wondering how they can keep in touch with their new friends and trying to savor every last detail of their fond memories. Last night was a culminating night in adventure camp. Both MAC and Teen Adventures participated in affirmation circles. Where every member of camp is asked to mention one of their fellow campers or counselors and how they were positively impacted by them. As a director, I expect some affirmations but the really special ones are those that I am surprised to hear. Listening to campers recount how they have made a difference in each other’s lives will never get old or mundane. Here’s to another great session!
This year, MAC has added a new competition that the whole camp is abuzz about. Marathon 2010! Our wonderful camp directors devised an obstacle course/rely/eating competition/sport competition that almost covers the entire campus with activities. Every camper is asked to man a station for their team and tackle that challenge ferociously or else their team might fall behind! That is exactly what this boy did at the jello eating station. What an awesome new addition to adventure camp!
Yesterday TAC finally got to have their chance at Hershey Park. There wasn’t a single non-rider in the group, which needless to say, made it a very exciting day. Click HERE to watch a video of Gespard riding a roller coaster!
It is customary for every session of Adventure Camp in both MAC and Teen Adventures to have a theme night. This session of MAC the theme night was Monsters Inc. The food was scary good and the activities on Ford Patio were spine chillingly fun! Teen Adventures had their own awesome theme night. Ford Patio was transformed into a beautiful Luau scene complete with Chicken and Pineapple kebobs, limbo and hula hooping. The evening culminated in a wacky Hawaiian tourist relay race. Theme nights are a big part of what makes Adventure Camp special at Mercersburg, but as always, you never know when they’re coming!
Before I go into my post about the day, I just want to make a quick announcement & direct your attention to our Flickr page. Things had been looking a little unkempt & in disarray, but we’ve fixed everything and have made it much easier to navigate. If you know someone in MAC, TAC, or even in one of Mercersburg’s special sports camps, you can simply follow THIS LINK and take a look around! Hopefully this will be a lot easier for those of you who frequently check the Flickr. Please let us know what you think! We love to hear feedback, & your opinion really means a lot to us!
Now that business is taken care of, I suppose you want to hear about the MAC campers’ day of outdoor adventures & their night at the cinema!
Hello again from Sonny the Adventure camp canine! I have been having another amazing summer here in Mercersburg. In fact, I just got back from a day at the beach. I put on my trunks, splashed around in the water, put my shoes back on and played some soccer in the grass too! Cowan’s Gap State Park Beach is the perfect setting for an Adventure Camp excursion. I even got to help build a sandcastle. Campers went for a swim, had fun in the sun and spent some quality time with the fellow campers and counselors. Stay tuned, I have a feeling its only going to get better!
Mac campers kicked of the day with their enrichment classes. It was the last one and the campers have been working hard on their projects, including videos, skits, and science projects. Then campers spent the afternoon in the great outdoors doing activities like canoeing, geocaching, rock climbing, and kayaking! It was the perfect day to be outdoors, plenty of sun but not too hot!
The Teen campers got the chance to head to Cowan’s Gap state park to take in the sun and go for a swim. While many decided take the plunge others decided took take a chance to rest on sand as an escape to their usually active schedule. Later in the evening both Mac and Teen campers gathered fireside to sing some songs and share some skits which they created. A particular highlight of the night was our director Tim’s “Snare Nosed Buzzard.”
Campers best get plenty of sleep tonight! They are in for an even bigger day tomorrow! We encourage you to leave us comments and be sure to check out the photos from today on our flickr page!
Quite possibly the most anticipated day of camp, MAC campers headed out to Hershey Park yesterday afternoon. It was quite the scorcher, but that didn’t keep anyone from hitting all their must have rides in the park. With a little bit of sugar and a lot of adrenaline, the day was an absolute success!
I got the chance to document the experiences of some of our first time riders… let’s just say, their lives will never be the same!

One of my favorite parts about Adventure Camp is to watch the campers help each other out in activities. These are kids who days before, did not know one another, but put them in a camp setting, and they are very considerate of each other’s needs and well being. Whether it be at a high ropes course, the lakefront beach or in the dining hall, watching campers make friends has got to be one of the best parts of working at summer camp!
